FAQs

Do you have any questions? Here´s the most frequently asked.

How much food is served on the Food Safaris?

My Food Safaris includes from 1 to a maximum of 6 tasting locations depending in the Safaris. All of them including a variety of styles of bars, artisan shops, and local hot spots.

What if I´m vegetarian or I have a dietary restriction or food allergies?

I can provide substitutions for vegetarians and those who do not drink alcohol. Please notify me of any serious allergies so I can tell you which food(s) to avoid and what to eat instead.

Is bottled water provided on the safaris? Should I bring my own refillable water bottle?

To reduce our environmental impact, I do not provide bottles of water on the tours. Instead, guests are encouraged to bring a reusable bottle. If guests run out of water, any of the stops will happily provide refills! Guests will also be provided with glasses of water at the majority of the stops, and there are a number of beverage tastings during our experiences.

How much walking is involved?

The Walking Safaris require a certain level of physical stamina. Their generally last approximately 2-3 hours. Guests can expect to be walking or standing for a majority of the time.

Do any of your tour experiences or events visit a local market?

Yes! In my Safaris we will always try to visit a local farmer’s market. Beware that the local markets, like Ribera Market, are closed on Sundays and other are only open on soecific weekdays or Sundays like Arenal Street Market.

Is there any single supplement?

NO I understand this changing holiday trend, I will never penalise single travellers.

What appends if we are a big group?

Just send me an email or call me or send me a WhastApp and ask a quotation for bigger party of people.

Are the tours given in bad weather?

The Safaris are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of unpleasant weather, we will be able to go inside many of the establishments on the tour. Bilbao is known for the rain! Therefore I suggest you should dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions and bring an umbrella! Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Is there a minimum drinking age on the tours?

Yes. The minimum drinking age on all tours is 18 years old. A valid ID must be presented before alcohol is consumed. For guests under the age of 18 or for those who do not wish to consume alcohol, non-alcoholic substitutions will be made.

If you cannot find a tour departure time that fits your schedule, please feel free to send me an email oihana@bilbaofoodsafari.com with your available times. I want to help make the most of your time here in Bilbao, and I will try my best to arrange a tour or experience to fit your schedule.

Do you arrange private tours?

Yes. Please send your wishes to oihana@bilbaofoodsafari.com and I can arrange a private tour. If there are more than 20 people in a group we will split it into 2 with separate guides for the best experience. The groups will start and end at the same time.

Yes, please send me an email to oihana@bilbaofoodsafari.com telling me which safari you wish to book and when and I will send you a gift certificate.

Are tour guide gratuities included in the price?

My Safaris does not include gratuities in the cost of the tours. If you had a great time, gratuities are accepted by my tours, although not mandatory.

When is the best time to take the tour?

I highly recommend taking the tours at the beginning of your visit. This way, you will have plenty of time to revisit your favourite food tasting locations and explore Bilbao’s hidden gems. Since my safaris usually sell out rather quickly, there is not one day that works better than another.

Are tours offered only in Spanish/English?

Yes, I only lead my tours in Spanish and English, but with advance notice I can organize a private tour for you with the appropriate language you need.

Are young children allowed to participate on a tour? Is there a special price for children?

If you are bringing an infant or very young child and they will not be participating in the tastings, you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. However, please do let me know if you will be attending with an infant or young child when you are buying the tickets in the message section. This will allow me to plan the pace of the tour accordingly.

Are the tours and events accessible by baby stroller and wheelchair?

All tours are wheelchair accessible and also baby stroller friendly.

If the tour that I want to take is sold out, can I get on a waiting list?

Unfortunately, I don´t have a waiting list. I hope you can book a tour on another day. Please contact me and perhaps I can arrange a private tour for you.

Is there parking available near the start of the tour?

There is some available private parking but as is the case in all big cities, parking is limited and/or expensive. I would recommend that you arrive on foot or by tram or metro.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay with cash?

Yes, advance ticket purchase is required. My walking and food safaris are sold out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting the date, time, and the number of tickets you prefer, please book in advance. Cash and/or walk-up traffic on the day of the tours are not accepted.

We ask that you pay in advance so you can forget about money and exchange rates on the day of your tour. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Cameras are most certainly permitted, and photos are absolutely encouraged.

Are bathrooms available during the tour?
